Tossing and turning, stressing as each minute passes, insomnia can suck the life out of us. Sleep not only feels good but is crucial for our bodies to function optimally. It supports everything from hormone regulation to productivity. But what can we do when we need to fall asleep fast? Here are 3 tips that induce sleep in 5 minutes or less.

  1. Lavender Oil

Lavender oil isn’t just great for our skin. Yes, it can effectively calm inflamed skin, but the soothing scent also induces sleep by reducing blood pressure, heart rate and how fast we breathe. It does this by altering the brain waves used to regulate our muscles. Lavender is good at helping release tension stored in our muscles due to the stresses of daily living. For times when it’s hard to get your brain to wind down, try sniffing some lavender oil or better yet, add a couple drops in a bottle with water and spray your pillow and sheets before going to bed. The scent will fill your room and linger as you drift softly to sleep.

Try a science podcast. The environment, microbes and animals are interesting but not as riveting as a true crime story (at least for me).
